Lagos Is Training Young People in Agriculture Again, Here’s What You Should Know

Something practical is back on the table, and this one is not just talk.

The Lagos Agripreneurship Programme, LAP, is opening applications for its 2026 intensive training, and it’s designed to move people from just “interest in agriculture” to actually building something real from it.

This is coming from the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, and the focus is clear, skills, jobs, and food production.

What This Program Is About

LAP is not just a classroom thing.

It combines training, internship, and mentorship to show how agriculture can actually work as a business, not just farming for survival.

Participants will go through a one-month hands-on training at the Agricultural Training Institute in Araga, Epe, where they’ll learn modern practices across different value chains.

After that, there’s a three-month internship and mentorship phase with real commercial farms.

So you’re not just learning, you’re entering the system.

Areas You Can Learn

The training covers multiple paths, depending on your interest.

Poultry, piggery, aquaculture, vegetable value chains, e-agriculture, and agribusiness are all included.

This gives you options to focus on what can actually make money.

What Happens After Training

At the end of the training phase, there will be an assessment to test how well you’ve understood everything.

Performance here also determines rewards, so it’s not just attendance, effort matters.

After completing both phases, participants move into what the program calls enterprise activation, basically pushing you towards starting something.

Who Can Apply

The program is open to young Nigerians who are serious about agriculture.

You need to have at least a Senior Secondary School Certificate, be between 18 and 30 years old, be physically fit, and have a LASRRA number.

What You Get

There’s financial support built into the program.

Participants receive a ₦15,000 transport stipend after the training phase.

During the three-month internship, there’s a ₦20,000 monthly stipend.

It’s not huge money, but it helps you stay focused while learning.

How to Apply

Applications are done online through the official LAP portal by CLICKING HERE.

You’ll need to upload your LASRRA card and academic credentials, so it’s smart to have them ready on your phone or laptop before starting.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via SMS for an online aptitude test.

Why This Matters

Agriculture is quietly becoming one of the most realistic paths for income and job creation in Nigeria.

Programs like this are not just training, they’re entry points into a system that is still growing.

Bottom Line

This is one of those opportunities where you gain both skill and access.

If you’ve been thinking about agriculture but didn’t know where to start, this is a structured way to get in and actually learn how to make it work.
